The details
Lot, scope, weeks, and the number.
- Blossom Hill Terrace

A sloped back yard cut into two terraces. Board formed concrete, a gas fire bowl and three mature olives moved from the front.
- Kennedy Road Pool

Limestone coping and deck around an existing pool, replanted with olives, lavender and deer grass. Pool shell by a licensed partner.
- Saratoga Oaks Kitchen

A cedar pergola under two valley oaks, a limestone counter with a grill and sink, and a table for twelve. Gas and power run under the terrace.
- Monte Sereno Steps

Eleven feet of grade change handled with wide concrete steps and thyme in the joints. A cedar gate at the top, manzanita on the slope.
- Almaden Dry Garden

A front lawn replaced with agave, Cleveland sage and deer grass on a decomposed granite path. Water use down 41 percent in year two.
- Shannon Road Agaves

A narrow side yard turned into a gravel garden of agaves and grasses, each one uplit. The view from the kitchen window at night was the brief.
- Los Altos Courtyard

An entry courtyard in porcelain pavers with a single Japanese maple and fourteen brass path lights. Small lot, every inch used.
- Overlook Drive

The whole yard: two terraces, an outdoor kitchen, a fire feature, a pool surround and 3,000 square feet of planting. Our largest build to date.
- Quito Road Meadow

A back lawn turned into a native meadow of grasses and wildflowers on a weather-based drip system. Mowed once a year, in February.
- Winchester Pergola

A west facing patio that was unusable after three in the afternoon. A deep cedar pergola and a small kitchen fixed it.
- Hicks Road Hillside

A steep lot with two engineered retaining walls, concrete steps and a slope planted in manzanita and ceanothus for erosion control.
- Glen Una Pool Garden

A new pool surround in limestone with a lavender hedge on the long side and olives at each end. Lighting on a dimmer for late swims.
